In 1834, a German immigrant to Tx, D. T. F. (Detlef Thomas Friedrich) Jordt, aka Detlef Dunt, released Reise nach Tx, a delightful little reserve that praised Tx as "a land which sets riches in [the immigrant's] lap, which can bring happiness to hundreds and also to their descendants." Dunt's size was the first one written by an on-the-ground observer to encourage German immigration to Tx, and it provides an unparalleled family portrait of Austin's Colony from the low Brazos region and San Felipe to the Industry and Frelsburg areas, where Dunt resided with Friedrich Ernst and his family. Voyage to Tx, 1833 supplies the first British translation of Reise nach Tx. It brings to brilliant life the personalities, scenic landscapes, and traditions that Dunt encountered in colonial Tx on the eve of trend, along with his many practical suggestions for Germans who intended to emigrate. The editors' advantages describes the communal, political, and monetary conditions that prompted Europeans to emigrate to Tx and biographical track record on Dunt and his reference to Friedrich Ernst. Growing our understanding of German immigration to Tx beyond the greater fully noted Hill Country communities, Voyage to Tx, 1833 also contributes an important chapter to the story of pre-Revolutionary Tx by a sophisticated commentator.
