Ella Hepworth Dixon (1855-1932) was a British isles short story copy writer, journalist and novelist. 'The World's Slow-moving Stain' is the storyplot of any reconciliation which goes catastrophically incorrect. Adela Buller and Anthony Mellingham, whose love affair ended badly a decade earlier, meet again and consent to marry. But after they broke up the first time, Adela released a bitter novel under a pseudonym, in which she modelled the lead character - a dreadful cad - on Mellingham. Since their bitter divide, Adela has already established affairs with numerous men - including the cynical dramatist Gilbert Vincent. When Adela tells Gilbert she will no longer see him after her relationship, Vincent decides to give Mellingham a copy of his new wife's e book as a surprise wedding gift.
