In practically all domains of human effort, ancient Athens was so much at the forefront of dynamism and development that the merchandise of its most fantastic minds continue to be not only important but entirely relevant to this day. In neuro-scientific medicine, the fantastic medical doctor Hippocrates not only advanced the functional knowledge of human anatomy and care-giving but modified the complete face of the medical profession. The great philosophers of Athens, men like Aristotle, Socrates, and Plato, interrogated themselves with startling intricacy about the nature of good and wicked, questioned the lifetime of divinity, advocated intelligent design, and went as far as to argue that life was made up of infinitesimal contaminants. Great architects and sculptors such as Phidias produced works of art of such amazing realism and startling dynamism that they later developed the driving power behind the resurgence of sculpture during the Renaissance and offered as experts to designers such as Michelangelo, Bernini, and Donatello. The works of dramatists such as Aristophanes not only exhibited an acerbic wit and a genius for political satire so pronounced that their works continue being performed - and topical ointment - even today, but offered as the creativity for practically all playwrights from Shakespeare to the present day. And this does not look at the host of equally fantastic mathematicians, natural philosophers, historians, astronomers and politicians that the city's great institutions nurtured and produced. Certainly, what most people bear in mind about the golden age of Athens today is the achievements of the city's men, which disregards almost half the population. Pericles, in his funeral oration as quoted by the ancient historian Thucydides, amounts up what's generally regarded as the attitude of men with their ladies in Classical Athens: "I will say something about the virtue appropriate to women and I shall simply give one quick little bit of advice. Your renown will be great if you do not behave in an inferior way to that natural to your making love as well as your glory is to be least brought up amongst men concerning either your virtue or your faults". Any exploration of the lives of ladies in classical Athens must consider the legal construction which governed such things as marriage, inheritance and basic protection under the law within population, as well as the girl, herself, within the oikos. However, as a starting point, the simple issues relating to your day to day lives of the ladies in this era provide an original knowledge of how all of these other factors played out a part in the overall routine of life for an Athenian, top class, girl. The lives of lower and middle class women, as well as those that did not land into the defined communal hierarchy, were markedly not the same as that of their aristocratic sisters in a few respects. Underlying, however, for any women, was an attitude that wanted to keep them apolitical, segregated and secluded up to was virtually possible.
