"Despite the fact that women were not said to be on the front lines, on the front lines we were. Women were not said to be interned either, but it just happened to us. People should know very well what we endured. People should know very well what we can put up with." Lt. Col. Madeline Ullom. A lot more than 100 US Army and Navy nurses were stationed in Guam and the Philippines at the start of World War II. Following the Japanese harm on Pearl Harbor in Dec 1941, five navy nurses on Guam became the first American military services women of World War II to be studied prisoner by the Japanese. A lot more than 70 army nurses survived five a few months of fight conditions in the jungles of Bataan and Corregidor before being captured, and then put up with more than three years in jail camps. When flexibility came, the US military ordered the nurses to hint agreements with the government not to discuss their horrific experiences. Evelyn Monahan and Rosemary Neidel-Greenlee have conducted numerous interviews with survivors and scoured archives for characters, diaries, and publications to uncover the heroism and sacrifices of the brave women. The e book is published by College or university Press of Kentucky.
