Jonathan is not the strongest son in his home town. That would be his older sibling Jason. He isn't the tallest, best looking, or funniest either. Again, that would be Jason. He is much better than most in the town at archery, though. He is an excellent hunter, and can perform more trick photographs than anyone else with amazing correctness. Well, he's almost much better than anyone else. Jason has him conquer there too. Jonathan doesn't mind though, he and his elderly brother show a deep relationship that attaches them more totally than their distinctions could isolate them. They interact in their family areas, go swimming at the fishing opening, and sometimes they play tricks on other farmers in the town. Whatever they do, once and for all or ill, they do together. On Jonathan's 16th birthday though, officials come to the town asking for volunteers. Trolls have invaded during the heaviest monsoon season ever before known, and the moist conditions have given the trolls increased capabilities. Jason is the first ever to step forward, and it is eagerly accepted for his height and durability. Though he also volunteers, Jonathan is advised he's too young, rather than strong enough for the rigors of battle with the trolls in the Murkle Quags. When words stop arriving from Jason after 2 yrs of battle, and Jonathan still confirms himself denied popularity to the army scheduled to his small stature, he does indeed what any good sibling would do. Jonathan Haymaker needs his bow and leaves his home. They said it couldn't be achieved. The trip was too much, the potential issues too great, and the battle too fierce for a son like him. Perhaps these were right, but he realized Jason was alive someplace, and he had not been about to let his sibling be alone.
