There have been a few major failures in my 25 years of business that I have discussed on my podcast show several times. Admitting my own failure isn't easy to do, but I understood in order to go on, I'd have to face my failure, offer with it and put it behind me. But moreover analyze and identify what and just why I lost in those deals. There is a valuable lessons to be learned in every failure. Although there's a high cost, they can be valuable, and I took them to heart and soul. In 25 years; I have owned, leased, run, bought and sold over 20 different types of businesses. They may have ranged from restaurants to general road sales and everything in between. Looking back I could say confidently that all those people I got successful at had a very important factor in keeping: a great negotiation that causes a great deal either in the lease/rent or price. This is the most essential skill necessary for any new business. Looking again on those people where I failed, I know where I gone wrong. Again each of them had a very important factor in keeping: I got too eager and anxious to pay attention to the details and arranged too easily to the conditions I was offered. When I started in the business, there wasn't a mentor or a booklet that taught me how to actually negotiate running a business. Rather, I did what came normally if you ask me; little did I know that a common sense method of business discussions is not the best idea. It is actually such as a game of troublesome folks, where in fact the one who doesn't blink wins. If this noises strange, that's since it is unusual but that is the reality. Over the years I learned to learn the overall game of negotiation well when i had to practice it often in various businesses. Business negotiation is one skill no person is born with, nor should you "learn on the run" because the stakes are too much. Looking back at my very first offer to the last one, the journey has been painfully long and at times it cost me dearly. But a very important factor I'll say is the fact most of the costly problems I made were limited by my early business life. Sure a lot more you do, the better you reach it. I have always been the type of person who discovers best by instances because I'm a visible person; I need to visualize and relate to a genuine life situation in order to totally understand the problem. If you are like me, then you will enjoy hearing the real life business negotiation history I share within the last chapter and can actually visualize how the process works.
