Cherokee: A wonderful people with a history longer than fine sand has passed through the hour glass of time. The country's economy, like this of other southeastern tribes, was established mostly on agriculture; they were farmers growing corn, beans, squash, sunflowers and tobacco. Due to the abuse that they had suffered as a result of the Iroquois and Delaware, they utilized the artwork of war. Utilizing their bows and arrows, they hunted keep, elk and deer. For smaller game, like turkeys, waterfowl, raccoons, rabbits and squirrels, they used long blowguns. This is a cane-stem into which a tiny real wood dart with feathers was inserted. The tribes of the Cherokee were matrilineal or matriarchal. That is defined as a form of hereditary succession or other inheritance through which the subject's feminine relatives are traced back in a matrilineal series.
