Whenever we think of someone being shy, we might think of a child who is covering behind the lower leg of her mother because she fears strangers. Shyness was once considered to be an asset for girls as well as women since it was associated with modesty. I can remember my little girl covering behind my lower leg when she was a little girl and thinking that it was so lovely. I never saw shyness as an impediment and, like many other adults, found this kind of action very "cute". Shyness is not lovely. To the in contrast, it can cause you all sorts of problems in life. Folks who are shy are usually struggling to express their feelings and have a much more hard time building associations. My little girl, for example, found it difficult to make friends as she received older and speak to strangers at gatherings. While people found her to be lovely as a child as she hid behind my lower leg, they found her to be aloof and unfriendly as she blossomed into adulthood. Before we can conquer shyness, we have to figure out why we have been shy. There is absolutely no easy response to this question. Some people appear to be born shy and have trouble appearing out of their shell to others. Other people seem to be more outgoing. I've done a lttle bit of research into why is someone shy and discovered that two things often determine into shyness - labor and birth order and a lower self-esteem. It is also important to realize that shyness is not always so apparent. Some people, in order to not appear so shy, will set off in the opposite direction and appearance to be very outgoing when they are struggling, inside, to conquer this affliction. I can relate with this when i am one of those types of people. Others often find me to be outgoing, but in fact I get a tired feeling in my stomach when I have to meet new people or exert myself in social situations.
