In 1935, the Spokane law enforcement officials regularly extorted love-making, food, and money from the unwilling hobos (most of them displaced farmers who acquired fled the midwestern dirt bowls), robbed dairies, and engaged in all types of nefarious offences, including murder. This record was suppressed until 1989, when ex - logger, Vietnam veterinarian, and Spokane cop Tony Bamonte discovered a peculiar 1955 deathbed confession while exploring a thesis on local police history. Bamonte began to probe what acquired every appearance of popular police criminal offense and an enormous cover-up whose focus on was the unsolved murder of Town Marshall George Conff. The actual fact that many of those engaged - now in their 80s and 90s - were still alive managed to get very important that Bamonte unravel this enigma. The result is Breaking Blue, a white-knuckle trip through institutional problem and cover-up that vividly documents Depression-era Spokane and an extraordinary case that few presumed would ever before be brought to light.
