"They make the back of my forearms chilly and my toes numb and then my head feel like a world." - John Kennick I composed over 100 web pages of poems during September 2016, poem after poem, day by day, an incredible, exhausting journey. One of those choices (Harvest Moon) is also available here. The other (Li Po-ems) will be soon. Within the morning of September 24, I woke up after having a fitful rest with the first two poems in this series totally composed in my own head, holding out there at night, thus the subject. I have no idea the way they got there like this. I just went downstairs and typed them up. The rest of the series came to me exactly like that, out of the dark, though mainly while I was awake, appealing me to type them up. WHEN I considered this later, I could view it was the typical "descent into the underworld" that is normal to epic poems, even its length, three days and nights, standard for a trip right down to the dark. I really like dark poems, both reading and writing them. I am hoping you will find something to love here, too. Paul Kameen is the author of Writing/Coaching and Re-reading Poets (scholarly books); This Fall (personal essays); several choices of poems (Harvest Moon, In the Dark, and Li Po-ems) and numerous essays.
