Bart and Joe live on the east coast of Florida and have been close friends for years. Bart is recently married with a fresh, high-pressure job at Kennedy Space Centre and a child on the way. He and his partner, Mary, are doing their finest to find their way the choppy waters of new relationship, adult responsibility, and impending parenthood. In the mean time, Joe continues to be working engineering and picking up young girls on the beach in his restored 1967 VW vehicle. But despite their variations in lifestyle, Bart and Joe stay close, mainly due to their distributed love for SCUBA diving. With plans going cave diving in another of Florida's many natural springs, they drive to Blue Grotto Condition Area in the central area of the state, having along Mary and Joe's new girl, Jill. Coming to the park, they find they have the place to themselves. They set up a picnic alongside the spring and coil, and Bart and Joe decide to get right into the dive. It's a dangerous new excursion, and Mary can be involved for their safe practices. But Bart and Joe are self-assured and experienced divers. As the ladies remain on the surface, the men link a lifeline to a submerged tree and plunge in. Battling up against the strong upsurge of drinking water, they work their way into the sunken cavern. Once there, Joe's light provides. Instead of time for the surface, they decide to count on Bart's light and press to explore the Well, a deep tunnel that presumably links to other underwater caverns across the state. Once in the Well, however, things fail. A decision must be made by one of the divers. Does indeed he save himself, or does he help his best friend, his diving pal?
