For admirers of legendary pulp publisher H. P. Lovecraft, there is certainly little or nothing bigger than the annual Providence-based convention called the summertime Tentacular. Horror writer Colleen Danzig doesn't really know what to expect when she happens, but is unsettled to find that among the hob-knobbing between scholars and literary critics are several real freaks: booklet lovers looking for amounts bound in individual skin area, and true believers saying the power to summon the Elder God Cthulhu, one of these idol's most horrific imaginary creations, prior to the weekend has gone out. Colleen's trip spirals into a problem when her roommate for the weekend, an obnoxious novelist known as Panossian, arises lifeless, his face neatly removed. What's more unsettling is the fact that, in the aftermath of the murder, there is certainly little concern among the convention goers. The Summer Tentacular remains uninterrupted, except by a few bumbling police force. Everyone at the convention is a possible think, but only Colleen seems to show any affinity for fixing the murder. So she delves deep into the darkness, where occult truths have been lurking because the beginning of their time. A darkness where Panossian is ready, spending lots of time considering Colleen, narrating a fresh Lovecraftian tale that would likely spell her doom.
