Paraffin, Vermont, houses the Grosholtz Candle Stock. There, 17-year-old Poppy detects something dark and unsettling: an area filled with dozens of startlingly lifelike wax sculptures. Later, she's stunned when one of the numbers - a teenage young man who doesn't seem to know what he is - jumps nude and screaming out of the trunk of her car. Poppy desires to come back him to the factory, but before she can, a open fire destroys the mystical workshop. By using the wax young man, who right answers to the name Dud, Poppy attempts to determine who was simply behind the open fire.
