The ship (Solar Queen) has recently obtained a very important trading contract on earth Sargol which is building a romantic relationship with one of the races on earth, the cat-like Salariki. The process goes slowly and gradually till the Salariki discover that the Solar Queen is having catnip and other crops from Terra that are undiscovered on Sargol. The merchants exchange what little of the crops they have got for the uncommon and valuable Koros rocks and collect a local red-colored wood to switch at home.
At the last minute the surprise priests of the Salariki demand that the Solar Queen take a pre-paid contract to come back within 6 months with more crops. A few days after leaving the earth, several associates of the team suffer from attacks, which focus on severe headaches and end in a semi-coma talk about. Upon exiting hyperspace, the team discovers that they are pariah and also have been declared a plague ship... This is actually the second installment in Norton's "Dane Thorson/Solar Queen" series.
