Angus Gregory is 14 years old when he moves to Fairhope, Wisconsin, with his family. The very first thing to attack him, when he moves to the small town, are the Missing posters of the young man from the faculty. The next thing is the girl on the rooftops. Only Angus can see her - but she's there - dressed up in a dark cloak, her sight focused straight ahead as she strolls hurriedly across the rooftops of the properties downtown. Angus feels he could go mad, possessing this secret, understanding that she's there but knowing that no person else can see her. But one day, when he's on a camping trip with some children from his college, as they remain round the campfire informing ghost testimonies, another boy reveals that he's also been seeing the girl on the rooftops. Together, the two of them team up to learn who she was, why she's there and what she's so desperately searching for as she goes up up from her storyline - crosses the graveyard and strolls back and forth across the downtown properties before coming back to her relaxing place and dropping headfirst, back into the ground.
