The Booklet of Modern British Verse, edited by William Stanley Braithwaite (1878-1962). This anthology, first released in 1919, is very much indeed a record of its time. Lots of the poems deal with the cataclysmic injury of World War One and the introduction of a new world order after the fading of the Edwardian age. Among the creators of the 151 poems can be found the brands of Rupert Brooke and Ivor Gurney, most widely known as conflict poets. As well as poets like Edward Thomas, whose celebrities have relatively faded, there's also contributors who remain celebrated today, but generally for literary pursuits apart from poetry, which range from Adam Joyce to the mystic philosopher Evelyn Underhill. In the words of the anthologist: "This little collection is supposed to present to American viewers the character of contemporary English verse. The time has now definitely assumed the name of 'Georgian'. It commenced with John Masefield and is continuing to grow in to the newer blossoming of Siegfried Sassoon, Robert Graves, and Robert Nichols." The poets whose work is displayed in this anthology are, to be able of appearance: Ralph Hodgson, Willoughby Weaving, John Freeman, Osbert Sitwell, Seosamh MacCathmhaoil (Joseph Campbell), John Drinkwater, TW Earp, William H.
