In the overdue 1960s, aged seven, Julian is taken on the perfect beachside trip to North Cornwall. A popular with Patrick Gale's army of followers since it was first published in 2000, Abrasive Music was the book that brought Gale's writing to the attention of the much wider public and his first to accomplish best-seller status. He readily admits it was written so that they can solve the unknown of his parents' enduring marriage and also that it draws on painful memory he retains of the sense of otherness he experienced as a homosexual child yet to understand quite where his difference place. There is a retrospective to it for the reason that Gale's real life mother would become wiped out by the Alzheimer's disease he imagines laying spend her fictional counterpart. This is actually the first-time Rough Music has been made available as an audiobook, and it's read here by the author himself, a noted performer on the international celebration circuit.
