"The People of the Abyss" (1903) is a work by Jack port London about life in the East End of London in 1902. He had written this first-hand bill after surviving in the East End (including the Whitechapel Area) for a number of months, sometimes residing in workhouses or sleeping on the pavements.
The conditions he experienced and had written about, were the same as those endured by around 500,000 of the modern London poor.
