"The Black Pet cat" is a brief storyline by American article writer Edgar Allan Poe. It was first posted in the August 19, 1843, model of The Sunday Evening Post. It is a study of the mindset of guilt, often combined in research with Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart". In both, a murderer carefully conceals his criminal offense and thinks himself unassailable, but eventually breaks down and shows himself, impelled by way of a nagging reminder of his guilt.
