A unique joint memoir by way of a US sea and a discord photographer whose improbable friendship helped both mend their war-wounded bodies and souls. Battle tears people apart, but it can also bring them jointly. Through the unpredictability of warfare and its own aftermath, a adorned marine sergeant and a world-trotting warfare shooter became friends, their connection forged as they patrolled jointly through the dusty alleyways of Helmand province and camped side by side in the desert. It deepened after Sergeant TJ Brennan was hurt throughout a Taliban ambush, and both delivered home. Brennan began to suffer from the consequences of his accident and from the fallout of his trips in Iraq and Afghanistan. But warfare correspondents experience similar rates of post-traumatic stress as fight veterans. The complexities can vary, but guilt takes on a dominant role in both. For Brennan, it's the things he's done, or didn't do, that haunt him. Finbarr O'Reilly's conscience is nagged by the task of photographing people at their most prone while having the ability to do little to help, and his success guilt as fellow workers die face to face. Their friendship offered them both a shot at redemption. As we type in the 15th time of continuous warfare, it is more and more urgent not merely to document the experience of the battlefield but also to probe the reverberations that previous long after combatants and civilians have delivered home also to understand the many faces trauma needs. Shooting Ghosts looks at the horrors of warfare directly but then converts to a journey that attracts on our growing understanding of what recovery needs. Their story, told in alternating first-person narratives, is about the items they observed and did, the ways they are affected, and exactly how they may have navigated the internal aftershocks of warfare and wrestled with reforming their own identities and moral centers. While warfare hardly ever really ends for those who've resided through it, this publication charts the ways two survivors have found to relax the ghosts and reclaim a way of measuring peace.
