Miletus was an ancient city on the west coastline of present-day Turkey. It had been the primary city in the land of Ionia, a territory that extended over 2,000 rectangular kilometers of american Anatolia. Using its four great harbors and a proper location, Miletus became one of the main coastal locations of american Anatolia, linking the Hellenistic world with the great civilizations of Babylon, Egypt, and finally, Persia. Over time, Miletus was ruled by the Minoans, Mycenaeans, Hittites, Ionians, Persians, Seleucids, Attalids, Romans, Byzantines, Seljuk Turks, and Ottomans. Western civilization is straight linked to the incredible things that happened in Miletus through the BCE, 6th and fifth decades. In the framework of the energetic politics and mercantile interactions between different lands, idea and science could actually come up in Miletus due to presence of several rich professionals who, as an exceptionally rare luxury, acquired spare time to ponder about things beyond the necessities of life - to take an interest in knowledge for knowledge's sake. A trend in human being thinking took place there, most notably thanks to a man named Thales, who's more popular as the first philosopher - at least within the Western tradition. Little is well known for several about the life of Thales, apart from that which was said about him by other philosophers, but he is renowned to this day to be the first acknowledged pre-Socratic philosopher. He developed a fresh, incredibly optimistic idea, from the conflicting mythologies that existed in Miletus: the belief that human beings can uncover the true workings of mother nature through their thoughts and senses. This was the basic premise of the pre-Socratics, who paved the way for the traditional Athenian philosophers that would go on to establish the major styles in Western idea.
