Every childhood comes with its collection of stories, some fond, plus some we wish we could forget. Generally, growing up post-World Battle II Rio Grande Valley of Tx was an almost idyllic lifestyle for us. We'd the best of both possible worlds: the wonderful taste from the great "Frontera de Mexico" to the immediate south of us (seven miles from my childhood home) and the wonderful Gulf of Mexico sending its soft breezes and amazing salt air (15 miles to the east of us). My young mom and dad transferred to Brownsville, Tx immediately after he was discharged from the Military in 1945. I came along in 1946. Regrettably, our little family was divided apart in 1948 by divorce, and Mother and I ended up coping with my maternal grandparents. A lot of this story occurs on that 15 acres of rural land, bounded by citrus orchards and cotton fields. As I grew into a woman, I disperse my wings and went to "The University", now known as the School of Tx at Austin. My sheltered childhood was unveiled to the turbulent '60s, violent and challenging.
