In Sept 2004, a Category Five hurricane had just grazed Cuba and was going north toward the Gulf of Mexico and the seaside town of Gulf Shores, Alabama. Alabama Gulf Shores Zoo is a 67-acre non-profit zoo that sits one mile from the water. Patti Hall, the zoo's director, assembles her staff and devises an emergency evacuation plan: they'll evacuate some 300 family pets and transfer them to her home, which is 22 miles north of the zoo.
