Ebenezer Scrooge, the description of grumpy miserliness, gets a second chance at figuring out what's important in life, with the help of some ghosts who give him an unforgettable version of "This is YOUR DAILY LIFE."
In the book's famous opening scene, on the night time just before Holiday the old miser Ebenezer Scrooge sits in his freezing wintry counting house, oblivious to the discomfort of his shivering young associate Bob Cratchit. Scrooge is ceaselessly rude to relatives and visitors similarly who drop in to convey their Holiday greetings or require a contribution to charity.
Scrooge returns to his evenly chilly mansion where he has an astonishing supernatural experience. The soul of his dead partner, Marley appears narrating stories of eternal suffering that he's condemned to experience as a result of mean and uncharitable deeds that Marley do when he was alive.
Marley says Scrooge that three other supernatural visitors will make their appearance over another three nights. The rest of the book traces the occurrences that happen when these three otherworldly beings visit Scrooge.
Charles Dickens' A Holiday Carol is a quintessential little bit of what Christmas is all about (and perhaps an impression Halloween, too!). The story succeeds in entrancing so many of us because it touches upon the emotions, the senses, the human being condition, and encapsulates everything in the life and death have difficulties we all go through...plus, who doesn't love a good ghost storyline and a happy finishing!?
A pearl in your book shelf.
