Almost 2,000 years before Homer wrote his epic poems, the Minoan civilization was devoted to the island of Crete, a location that required the Minoans to be always a regional sea ability. And indeed they were, stretching across the Aegean Sea from about 2700-1500 BCE, with trade routes stretching all the way to Egypt. The Minoans might have been the first website link in the "European chain", resulting in the Ancient Greeks and beyond, but questions persist over the roots of the civilization, the end of the civilization, and substantial elements of their history, including their religious beliefs and buildings. All of this is largely because their written words, known today as "Linear A", remains undeciphered, and among the list of more enigmatic sees of the truly enigmatic culture was a small disk-shaped subject excavated among the list of ruins of the Minoan city of Phaistos in 1908. The disk, which has since become known simply as the "Phaistos Disc", consists of a number of pictographic symbols which were unrecognized by the scholars who first laid eye on the object and remain unfamiliar in the greater than 100 years since. The items of the Phaistos Disc, like the Minoan words of Linear A, stay unclear, but that's not for insufficient trying by a plethora of scholars, even more credible than others. Many different theories have been advanced, but there is still no consensus related to its roots or even if it was designed to be writing.Discovering ancient shipwrecks was not a novelty for a large number of years, however when artifacts were salvaged from a Roman shipwreck from the Greek island of Antikythera in 1900, the finding of one set off one of the fantastic mysteries of antiquity. When sponge divers investigated the shipwreck, they found the type of items often associated with such discoveries, including marble statues, pottery, rings, and coins.
