For three long years, the American Civil Battle has raged across the nation, scorching the land, leaving hundreds useless, and tearing households apart. The limitless fighting has hardened the hearts of troops of both factors. But on the unhappy field in mid-Tennessee, some of those soldiers will come in person with each other in some ball games. Stalled in a stalemate, the troops begin with small bets on who is better at the overall game; but as the wagers increase, so do the risks. In order to play, they have to perform what their government authorities were incapable of doing to stay away from the war, compromise. Each man provides his own ideas and guidelines to the activity, and together they formulate their own form of the American game. But they need to be careful, for soon the war will catch up with them, and they will have no choice but into conflict once more.
