Why do we do missions? Our company is informed, by Jesus, to preach the gospel and make disciples of all countries. So missions is work, right? Wrong. In the event that you do missions solely from a feeling of duty you will not honor those you are calling, nor do you want to truly honor God. Duty is the incorrect place to look, where do we find the response to why we do missions? We convert, matching to John Piper, to worship. // Inside our worship of God we face God's glory. The overflow from our worship is a desire to talk about God's glory with others (the principle end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him permanently), and we effortlessly become missional. When Jesus was asked the actual kingdom of God was like, he likened it to a pearl so valuable that you might sell all they had simply to have it. Does that seem like duty to you? Instead, Jesus message or calls us to a new mindset, which flows from the mindset that worship creates in us. Thus, matching to Piper, does worship end up being the goal of missions and the energy making missions possible. // Worship as the energy for missions is practical to a lot of people, but worship as the purpose of missions? Piper reminds us that the real reason we share God with others is to make sure they are worshipers (and sharers) as well. He seems that the real goal of missions is "the gladness of the peoples in the greatness of God." If it is true, (as Piper areas) that "God is most glorified in us whenever we are most satisfied in Him," then increasing the number of people who are satisfied in God will bring God more glory. And missions is just how we can do this. // Missions must be observed as more than merely saving people from sin, though that is a very important aspect. And missions is not only about getting people into heaven, although that is important as well. Instead, through missions we ought to always seek to make as many folks as it can be into true worshipers, into those completely content with the greatness of God. // Get back mindset, missions becomes a joyous experience, as we joyfully share the life-changing occurrence of God in our lives with those who have no idea God. Whenever we have made worship both the energy and goal of all our missionary endeavors, we realize that "missions is not really a recruitment job for God's labor force. It really is a liberation job from the heavy burdens and hard yokes of other gods." Missions is never a burden, since it comes out of your overwhelming pleasure in God's elegance and mercy, and we just want to talk about that pleasure. So make God the center of your missions work, and joyfully share what He has graciously directed at you.
