The odds were up against the Star Kingdom causes, and they possessed to run. Much to her wonder, she was repatriated to Manticore, carrying a request for a summit conference between the market leaders of both sides which might end the conflict. But an ailment of her return was that she offered her parole not to fight against the causes of the Republic of Haven until she had been officially exchanged for a Havenite prisoner of conflict, so she was presented with a command a long way away from the conflict’s struggle lines. What she didn’t realize was that she would find herself over a collision course, not with a hostile authorities, but with the interstellar syndicate of criminals known as Manpower. And Manpower possessed its own plans for reducing Manticore as a possible danger to its profitable slave trade, deadly plans which continue to be concealed in the shadows.
