The town of Lehigh, Western Virginia, encounters the insidious threat of a sadistic cult bent on removing all "unpretty" things on the globe.
A bomb runs off at the Conklin Art Gallery, killing eight people associated with a distinctive Michelangelo show being shown there. The only real person who may have seen the bomber is Hummingbird Collins, an aspiring designer who works down the street from the gallery. But she soon starts obtaining ominous cassette recordings of your rambling madman who unveils his intend to clear the world of "unpretty" things.
This madman -- known only as Amount 26 -- leads a cult known as the Michelangelus Motion, which has kidnapped and tortured people for use in their bizarre creative experiments within the last dozen years.
