Detective Sloane Pearson is not used to the Sex Offences Division but no stranger to being cured like an incompetent blonde by her solidified men co-workers. She’s also no stranger to hard-to-crack cases, and her latest is as challenging as they come: A rapist is on the prowl, dragging women to deserted building sites or vacant apartment properties peppered all over downtown Chicago, and forcing these to fight---knowing, of course, that he’ll earn.
When an agent Sloane is aware is attacked by the violent predator, Sloane sees herself taking a circumstance that threatens her top secret strategies to leave her long-time fan. Her personal relationship with the sufferer and a would-be romantic relationship with a man she interviews along the way business lead Sloane down a dangerous path---one that poisons the investigation as well as her personal life.
Sloane’s managing action topples when her father falls ill. Between dealing with his weak center and following the few vulnerable leads she's, her case commences to go just how that lots of rape cases go: The patients fall away, one by one, suddenly doubtful of what they observed or unwilling to relive the horrifying moments over and over.
When Sloane helps a hungry young Sun-Times reporter declare the situation serial, she manages to lose support: Her bosses demand she get a think or move on. Sloane continues on the situation, though---no matter how much it strains her personal human relationships. Even her partner promises she’s in too profound: He doesn’t believe there’s an arrest on earth worth a cop’s life. Sloane disagrees: Someone’s got to take in the struggle.
From the worst slums of Chicago’s western world area to the glittering Loop skyscrapers, Sloane sees no lack of suspects. As she manages to lose everything she’d called home, she can only hope to find the rapist before she also becomes a sufferer.
