"Hypnos" is a short report by American horror fiction copy writer H. P. Lovecraft, penned in March 1922 and first published in the May 1923 problem of National Amateur.
"Hypnos" is a first-person narrative, written from the perspective of unnamed character living in Kent and later London, England. The narrator creates that he worries sleep, and is also resolved to create his report down lest it drive him further mad, whatever people think after reading it. The narrator, a sculptor, recounts achieving a inexplicable man in a railway stop.
The second the man opened up his "immense, sunken, and extensively luminous eyes", the narrator knew that the stranger would become his friend - "the one friend of 1 who acquired never possessed a pal before." Inside the eyes of the stranger, he witnessed important knowledge of the mysteries he always wanted to learn...
