Written for a cast of 5 men and 3 women. In the center of a howling snowstorm, a bus out of Kansas City pulls up at a cheerful roadside diner. All streets are clogged, and 4 or 5 weary travelers are going to have to hole up until morning hours. Cherie, a nightclub chanteuse in a dazzling wedding dress and a seedy fur-trimmed coat, is the traveler with most to be anxious about. She's been pursued, made want to and finally kidnapped by the twenty-one-year-old cowboy with a ranch of his own and the passionate ways of an unusually headstrong bull. The belligerent cowhand is right behind her, ready to sling her over his make and carry her, alive and kicking, completely to Montana. Even while she's ducking out from under his clumsy but self-assured embraces, and screeching at him fiercely to shut him up, she pauses to furrow her forehead and muse, "Somehow profound inside of me I acquired a funny feeling I'm gonna wrap up in Montana …" To be a counterpoint to the key relationship, the proprietor of the cafe and the bus driver at last find time to develop a friendship of their own; a middle-age scholar comes to terms with himself; and a gal who works in the cafe also gets her first taste of romance.
