Alone, exclusively, all, all alone,
By itself on a broad huge sea! On this haunting poem, a visitor on his way to a wedding reception is discontinued by the Ancient Mariner. Along with his "glittering vision" he transfixes the visitor and then relates a persuasive tale of a sea voyage fraught with strange happenings. The Mariner explains to of journeying through tyrannous storms to snow mast-high, through mist and snow to the deadly inertia of the doldrums. There are unearthly visitations, sick omens, and supernatural happenings - all leading to the revelation of the Mariner's strange fate. Regarded as Coleridge's masterpiece, "The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere" was originally published in Lyrical Ballads in 1798. The poem was eventually revised, and this is shown in the subject change to "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner". This tracking uses the text of the revised version.
