AN INTERVIEW WITH DEBORAH COONTS
Why have you choose to write laughter?
I'm uncertain I decided to add snark to the Lucky, literature, specifically to Lucky's own voice, it just happened that way. AFTER I was a youngster, my mouth area always got me into trouble. Finally, I've found a way to harness the sarcasm for the Makes of Good--or at least in ways not to anger my grandmother. And when Lucky started speaking with me, she got a strong dose of sass in her.
The Lucky O'Toole Vegas Trip series is hard to categorize. Is that by design?
When I attempt to write Wanna Get Lucky?, I recognized I wanted to create a romp through NEVADA. I had fashioned the individuals and the environment but no real knowledge of narrative drive. So, I threw a young woman out of the tour helicopter in to the middle of the Pirate Show and allow report unfold. A little bit of murder to keep carefully the storyline moving, some wisecracking and Vegas mischief to cause you to laugh, plus some relationship to keep it interesting. A bit of a mash up, but it works.
Reward FOR Wanna Get Lucky?
"As the first in a series, Wanna Get Lucky? hits the proverbial jackpot." - Booklist
"When it comes to the crunch (something for a sullen teen, hostile neighbor, unbearably saintly mother-in-law), the secret is to make them giggle. Deborah Coonts's WANNA GET LUCKY? (Forge/Tom Doherty, $24.99), place at the 'most over-the-top mega gambling house/resort on the NEVADA Remove,' entrusts the sleuthing to a brainy beauty who recognizes the lighter area of human being folly." - Marilyn Stassio, NYT Publication Review, choosing Wanna Get Lucky? As a Notable Crime Book for 2010
"Deliciously raunchy, with funny takes on sexual proclivities, Vegas glitz and love, though Agatha Christie is probably content spinning in her grave." - Kirkus Reviews
"Wanna Get Lucky? is a winner on every level. Deborah Coonts has crafted a first-class murder mystery in conjunction with a coming in contact with and sudden love report. Against a flawlessly-rendered NEVADA backdrop, Lucky's report is funny, fast-paced, exuberant and brilliantly understood." - Susan Wiggs, New York Times bestselling author
