This is actually the autobiographical book by Harriet Wilson, the first African-American to publish a book in THE UNITED STATES. Originally released in 1859, it was rediscovered in 1982.The book starts as Frado, a six-year-old mulatto, is discontinued by her white mom. While offering the Bellmont family as an indentured servant, she actually is cared for cruelly. Frado earns her flexibility at age 18 but has many difficulties earning a paycheck on her behalf own. She marries Tom, a fugitive slave and a lecturer for the Abolitionist Activity. Frado has a newborn, but is again discontinued and must find a way to support herself. By the end of the book, the writer appeals in her own voice for sales of her publication.
