Potter Mays retreats immediately after university graduation to the safe house of his youth home. Like clockwork every morning, his mom makes him eggs, lovingly deep-fried into hollowed-out pieces of toast. His daddy, amid a marketing campaign to revitalize downtown St. Louis, guarantees to "poke around" for gainful job for his child. Potter's closest friend, Stuart - an "Separate Thought Contractor" working out of his parents' lavish pool house - is happy to serve as some sort of life coach, provided, of course, that Potter will pay for his services all summer time. However... Altogether anywhere else, Potter's (past? future?) partner, Audrey, is backpacking around European countries with her beautiful bisexual journeying friend, Carmel. Potter was not invited, and obtaining a good night's sleep has recently become a concern for him. As enigmatic deals appear from Audrey, the refuge of life at home soon shows illusory. Potter's parents are oddly never in the same room alongside one another, the neighbor female is looking quite mature, and Stuart's much-needed counseling service is subcontracted to a third-party denizen of the pool home with an agenda all his own. And precisely what are those noises coming from the attic? Kyle Beachy has woven a uniquely affecting story of the long and hard, then quick and hard, battle to grow up.
