Harry Bates was an American technology fiction writer and editor who, most likely, be totallyforgotten today if it weren't because of this one extraordinary story of any alien known as Klaatu and a giant and super-powerful automatic robot. The storyplot became the basis for the 1951 and 2008 videos The Day the planet earth Stood Still. However, as is usually the circumstance, the movie required only some elements from the storyline and improved others completely. In the story, for example, the automatic robot is known as "Gnut." In the movie, it became "Gort." Many people who read the story and start to see the movies seem to feel that, however the first movie became a classic, the original story has a much more interesting and thought provoking twist than either of the movies.
