It all started in June 2005 when Bobby Henderson of Oregon wrote an open letter to the Kansas College Board proposing a 3rd option to the coaching of progression and intelligent design in classes. Bobby is a prophet of types, the spiritual head of a growing, world-wide band of followers who worship the teachings of this Traveling Spaghetti Monster (FSM). The FSM seemed to Bobby as a giant ball of spaghetti, with meatballs for sight, and handled Bobby with "His noodly appendage" - resulting in the revelation that the FSM is the real creator of the world. The FSM faithful look to Bobby as their prophet and spiritual head. They call themselves FSMists or "Pastafarians". Shortly after Bobby's revelation and his letter to the Kansas College Board, a website (www.venganza.org) came into existence to promote the term. Then arrived the articles, that have been worldwide: The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian (UK), Pass away Welt (Germany), Delight (Austria), and many more chimed in to report the existence of the FSM. Bobby received words of support from academics and Kansas College Board members equally - not to mention a couple of million hits each day on the website. Then students started proselytizing across campuses nation-wide, and it was all-too-clear that there needed to be a book to construct FSM scripture, rites and observances, proofs, and answers to the Big Questions. With its loose moral expectations, and the offer of your heaven boasting both a stripper manufacturer AND a ale volcano, Pastafarianism will only grow in volumes. And those people are going to want to listen to this book.
