Based on 15 many years of research, Glock is the riveting tale of the weapon that has become known as America's gun. Today the Glock pistol has been embraced by two-thirds of most U.S. law enforcement officials departments, glamorized in countless Hollywood films, and highlighted as a ubiquitous existence on prime-time TV. It has been rhapsodized by hip-hop musicians and artists, and sought after by cops and crooks likewise. Created in 1982 by Gaston Glock, an obscure Austrian curtain-rod manufacturer, and swiftly adopted by the Austrian military, the Glock pistol, with its lightweight plastic structure and large-capacity spring-action newspaper, found its way to America at a fortuitous time. Law enforcement agencies had concluded that their brokers and officers, equipped with standard six-round revolvers, were consistently getting "outgunned" by medicine dealers with semi-automatic pistols. They needed a fresh gun. When Karl Water, a firearm salesman located in the U.S. first found a Glock in 1984, his reaction was, "Jeez, that's unattractive." However the advantages of the pistol soon became visible. The typical semi-automatic Glock could fire as many as 17 bullets from its newspaper without reloading. (One equipped with a protracted 33 cartridge newspaper was found in Tucson to throw Gabrielle Giffords and 19 others). It was built with only 36 parts that were compatible with those of other models. You may drop it underwater, toss it from a helicopter, or leave it out in the snow, and it would still fire. It was reliable, accurate, light and portable, and cheaper to produce than Smith and Wesson's revolver. Manufactured in part of solidified plastic, it was even rumored (improperly) to be invisible to airport terminal security screening. Filled with corporate intrigue, politics maneuvering, Hollywood glitz, bloody shoot-outs - and an effort on Gaston Glock's life by a ex - lieutenant - Glock is at after the inside accounts of how Glock the company gone about marketing its pistol to law enforcement officials organizations and later the general public, and a powerful chronicle of the evolution of gun culture in America.
