In the near future, conflict has torn the United States apart. Small communities hardly scrape by amidst climate change and financial collapse. Now it's up to Lisa Marquez, the individuals who helped Harrek get away from, and Jeremy Clayton, a poor outland farmer, to keep carefully the alien safe from the military and outlaws. The time clock is keeping track of down, and Harrek needs to have the Genesis File into the right hands before he gets found by the humans... or the other Hocq. In Michael Cassutt's first novel, the author can take standard SF account situations - post-holocaust tribal human being problems, first alien contact - blends them together and and brings his own exclusively original spin to a tried-and-true environment.
