Within the 1930s, Monroe, Louisiana, was a town of 26,000 in the northeastern area of the state, an area detailed by the New Orleans Item as the "lynch rules middle of Louisiana." Contest relationships were bad, and the Melancholy was pitiless for most, specifically for the working class - a great many of whom possessed no work at all or seasonal work at best. Yet for a couple of years in the first 1930s, this unlikely place was home to the Monarchs, a national-caliber Negro Little league baseball team.
