Levi Vogue, chairman of the powerful Utah Mother board of Pardons and Parole, is gunned down in the driveway of his home as he returns from a late night time tryst with Sue Ann Winkler, an spectacular dancer at a Sodium Lake City remove club. Sam Kincaid, main of the Special Investigations Branch of the Utah Department of Corrections, is assigned to help Sodium Lake City Police Department homicide detective Lieutenant Kate McConnell solve Vogue's murder. The exploration soon leads Kincaid and McConnell in to the seedy world of prostitution and remove clubs. The exploration targets Charles "Slick" Watts, a violent ex-convict with an extended criminal background and a score to settle with Vogue. A body is found out at an empty military bottom part in Wendover, Nevada, and the medical examiner concludes that it was a homicide elaborately staged to appear to be a suicide. Kincaid and McConnell are required to turn their attention to a sophisticated conspiracy behind the killings. In the end, the exploration leads Kincaid and McConnell to a small elite group known as the Payment. As the police close in, the suspects flip first on one another and then on Kincaid. About the writer: Michael Norman is a former police officer, condition parole panel member, and teacher of legal justice. His novel The Payment was one of Publishers Weekly's Best Literature of 2007.
