After Nadya, a 16 year old girl, returns home from viewing a play, she is happily consumed using its story of unrequited love. To Nadya, unrequited love is the most interesting kind of love, as love is boring if everyone is happy. Quickly, Nadya's thoughts turn to her two suitors, Gorny and Guzdev. Although they have both announced their love on her behalf, she, more than anything, would like to believe they do not love her. Seeking to emulate the unrequited love from the play, she creates a letter to Gorny, like the heroine in the play, to generate tension. But she amazing things if she should instead write to Guzdev, or simply both! About the writer: Anton Chekhov (1860-1904) was a Russian article writer and playwright, considered by many to be one of the better writers of short stories in the history of literature. Chekhov was also an effective physician, but writing was his true enthusiasm. He was quoted as expressing, "Medicine is my lawful wife and literature is my mistress."
