Hignite was created in North Carolina and was raised in Connersville, Indiana. He delivered to North Carolina along with his family after high school and went to East Carolina College or university in Greenville, NC. There he attained both his undergraduate and graduate diplomas. Following college, he taught English at Fork Union Government Academy in Fork Union, VA. After 2 yrs in Fork Union, he shifted back to northeastern North Carolina where he put in most of his educational profession in the cities of Washington, Camden, Murfreesboro, and Ahoskie. His interest on paper poetry was sparked while in college along with his readings of the English poets, Byron, Shelley, and Keats.
