Edward Coach, better known as the pirate Blackbeard, was killed November 22, 1718. Two months before, he purposely ran his dispatch, Queen Anne's Revenge, aground at what's now called Beaufort Inlet. He emptied the dispatch of all treasures into his other dispatch, The Sensitive, and fled to where no person knows.
