The Commodore is quick to point out that the Academy's by-laws require the Superintendent to obtain sea-going experience which, unfortunately, it will be next to impossible to find a Jewish captain. Enter Mrs. Tannenbaume. Her sonny son is captain of any dispatch, coincidentally! But Mrs. Tannenbaume has spent her life time proclaiming it's Tannenbaume with an E, which she's not Jewish. However the Commodore secretly plans to expose Captain Tannenbaume as a Gentile in the long run, Mrs. Tannenbaume joins her son's dispatch in Singapore to instruct him and his new bride-to-be, a 19-year-old Thai club young lady, to be the perfect Jewish few. The team on the M. V. God is ready have never seen famous brands Mrs. Tannenbaume before plus they sit back and watch as she "takes the conn" from her boy and everyone else who stands in her way. A Commodore of Mistakes is a bawdy, sea-going romp filled with exciting oddballs and convoluted plot twists in the P. G. Wodehouse vein.
