Ray Crandall has just graduated from high school, and reaches loose ends on the sticky, Chicago summertime. He's been targeted by neighborhood gangs for required membership or worse, if he refuses. The Fairy Godmothers Union has been targeted with a rival corporation, the Demons, Djinni and Efreets Guild, headed by their Grand Get better at, Albert Froister. The Djinni want the store of brownie points commanded by the FGU, since the DDEG has another charter. They've enlisted help, the very street gangs who've targeted Ray. He confirms himself in the middle of a fresh kind of turf war, with magic and the children of Chicago as the reward.
