Narrator Glenn Hascall magnificently catches the characters of this O. Henry brief story about a Southern gentleman who still maintains the manners of the antebellum South although he's now moving into a boardinghouse in Washington, D.C. Henry Hopkins Hargraves, an professional who also lives at the boardinghouse, befriends Major Pendleton Talbot, is seemingly entranced by the Major's testimonies, and is pleased to sit and listen closely for hours as Maj. Talbot rambles on. Needless to say O. Henry contributes an excellent twist to the humorous short history.
