Gavin Lyall (1932-2003) lived in Hampstead and loved cruising on the Thames in his engine cruiser. From 1959 to 1962 he was a newspaper reporter and the aviation correspondent for the Weekend Times. His first book, The Wrong Part of the Sky, was printed in 1961, pulling from his personal encounters in the Libyan Desert and in Greece. Lyall kept journalism in 1963 to become a full-time publisher, writing 17 books before his death in 2003.
