Mike Hurst has writer's block. Stressed out and obsessed to near immobility, he withdraws to a country cottage he mysteriously fled five years before. During his stay, he becomes included again with the locals and old friends; including Christabel (now hitched) whom he once adored, and Lizz, whom he thinks he could now love.... Praised by critics for his clean prose style, characterisation and the strong sense of put in place his novels, Philip Maitland Hubbard was created in Reading, Berkshire, and raised in the Route Islands. He was educated at Oxford, where he earned the Newdigate Reward for English verse in 1933. From 1934 until its disbandment in 1947 he served with the Indian Civil service, then for the English Council, before retiring to work as a freelance writer. He added to a number of publications, including Punch, and composed 16 novels for adults and two children's books. He resided in Dorset and Scotland, and a lot of his novels bring on his desire for and knowledge of rural pursuits and folk religion.
